Water mostly contains dissolved oxygen and nitrogen. But if the water becomes oversaturated, your fish can develop Gas Bubble disease. To detect and prevent that, you need a TGP probe.

The probe measures temperature and TGP – Total Gas Pressure, which, together with a DO probe and a control system, can calculate and display the saturation of oxygen and other gases. With this information, you can stay informed and ensure the health of your fish.

This new feed barge has been built and fitted out with the latest and greatest equipment at Margate, 30 minutes south of Hobart here in Tasmania. It is now ready for the barge to be towed to Stewart Island in New Zealand for Sanford Limited - one of New Zealand's largest producers of King Salmon. The OxyGuard Pacific System will monitor and alarm the dissolved oxygen in the 16 cages that the barge is servicing.

Over the past 7 years Technolab has worked with De Bruyn's to help design and install the monitoring and control system on a total of 8 Salmon Smolt transfer B-Double Transport trucks.  Each Truck trailer has an OxyGuard Pacific System installed measuring Dissolved Oxygen (DO) and Dissolved CO2 in each compartment.  The DO level is then automatically controlled be delivering pure oxygen to ceramic air stones in each tank.  This provides the optimal DO level to keep the smolt safe and comfortable on up to 8-10-hour transports.  The measurement is then transmitted to the truck cabin so the truck driver can view the measurement and any alarm notification.

De Bruyns have utilised their in-house workshops to manufacture these state-of-the-art trailers to an exceptional quality and safety requirements for the operators.

To do the 12-hour transfer of these sea creatures meant that they required a custom-built truck to be specifically designed for this task.

Moving the sharks was going to be a complex and huge operation as only one shark could be moved at a time on the road. 

Working with Advanced Aquarium Technologies in Queensland, Technolab supplied and installed the OxyGuard Pacific system, which was the perfect product to be fitted to the tank on the transport truck.

The OxyGuard Pacific looks after the water quality parameters on the truck, measuring the dissolved oxygen, temperature, and pH.

After successfully moving all of the 2000+ shark and sea animals to their new enclosures on the Sunshine Coast it is great to hear that all of the animals are thriving in their new home. The Sea Life Sunshine Coast facility is one of the few aquariums in the world to successfully breed Grey Nurse sharks, so we are thrilled to have been part of this project.
