The Victorian Fisheries Authority’s Snobs Creek Hatchery has evolved over more than 75 years into one of Australia’s leading freshwater fish production and conservation facilities supporting recreational fisheries, native fish breeding and endangered species recovery programs across Victoria.
Originally established in 1948 near Eildon in Victoria’s north-east, the facility was developed around the region’s reliable cold-water supply and ideal environmental conditions for freshwater fish production.
Historically focused on trout and salmonid stocking programs, the hatchery has expanded significantly over time to include native fish production, conservation breeding and threatened species recovery initiatives.
Over more than 13 years, Technolab has partnered with the Victorian Fisheries Authority to deliver integrated environmental monitoring, alarm management and control systems across multiple hatchery developments at the site.
This long-term partnership has supported the ongoing evolution of the facility through several major projects, including:
Throughout these developments, Technolab has integrated OxyGuard monitoring and control systems designed to provide reliable environmental oversight across critical hatchery infrastructure and Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS).
Today, multiple hatchery buildings and systems across the Snobs Creek facility are integrated into a single centralised OxyGuard Commander platform providing:
The latest expansion, The Macquarie Perch Recovery Centre, supports endangered species recovery programs focused on species including Macquarie Perch and Trout Cod and incorporates advanced RAS infrastructure, broodstock facilities and hatchery grow-out systems.
Projects such as Snobs Creek demonstrate the importance of dependable environmental monitoring and integrated control systems in modern aquaculture and conservation hatchery operations.
Reliable monitoring, alarm management and operational oversight play a critical role in protecting valuable broodstock, supporting hatchery operations and maintaining stable environmental conditions across complex aquaculture facilities.
Technolab is proud to continue supporting the Victorian Fisheries Authority alongside project partners Fresh By Design and OxyGuard International in the ongoing development of this important facility.
