Technolab is proud to be a Silver Sponsor of the 2026 Aquaculture New Zealand Conference, taking place in Nelson on 14-15 October 2026.
Bringing together industry professionals from across New Zealand’s aquaculture sector, this year’s conference will explore the theme “Lead Boldy”, encouraging purposeful decisions, practical innovation and collaboration to support the industry’s future.
Scott Powell joins the technical speaker programme
We are pleased to announce that Technolab’s Scott Powell will be presenting as part of the conference’s finfish technical programme.
Scott’s presentation is titled:
Why Water Quality Monitoring Systems Succeed or Fail in Modern Aquaculture
Drawing on more than 35 years of Technolab’s experience working alongside aquaculture operations across Australia, New Zealand and the Asia-Pacific region, Scott will examine the practical factors that determine whether a water quality monitoring system performs reliably in day-to-day operation.
While choosing the right sensor technology is important, successful monitoring also depends on how the complete system in designed, installed, maintained and used. Scott will explore the influence of sensor placement, installation philosophy, operator interaction, maintenance accessibility, calibration routines and system integration.
The presentation will share practical lessons from real-world monitoring and control installations across hatcheries, recirculating aquaculture systems, hybrid raceway systems, transport systems and grow-out operations.
As aquaculture facilities increase in scale and complexity, well-integrated monitoring systems can play an increasingly important role in improving operational stability, supporting fish welfare, reducing risk and protecting the farm’s most valuable asset, its stock.
